Wednesday night I am leaving NYC to spend the summer in Uganda. I will be spending most of my time in Jinja, working at an internship and conducting research for school. The nature of the internship and research has not been completely outlined yet, but overall I will be looking at the specific health issues of the slums in Jinja. Over the past year of grad school I have become increasingly interested in global health, specifically in the transmission of infectious diseases, women's health, and inequalities in access to health care.
My itinerary for the next few days is as follows:
May 25: Leave NYC
May 26: Arrive in Dubai (first mini-vacation)
May 28: Leave Dubai for Uganda
May 28 - 31: Fort Portal, Uganda (second mini-vacation)
June 1-3: Kampala, Uganda (orientation)
June 3: Onward to Jinja!
I plan to have reliable internet access and hope to update this blog regularly with pictures, etc. I know this will be an amazing and unique experience and I'm a mixture of nervousness and excitement. Thank you, my family and friends, for your continuous support and encouragement - I wouldn't be doing this without you. See you soon in Uganda!
